We've spent most of November and part of December in Washington DC visiting Leah and Alex and two of Beth's brothers and their families. Every day in the District we see examples of high hopes brought low so we try to make a habit of searching for kernels of fun to counteract the unpleasant. So, here are a few contrasting items. The first of each comparison is what bums us out - the second gives us perspective.
NOTE 1: What follows upset Beth. She said it was because she felt dumb not getting the jokes but what really upset her was that her husband actually thought some of them were funny
NOTE 2: If at any time you get tired of scratching your head and saying, "What the heck does that mean?", feel free to opt out and skip to the "Have a great 2011!" (After all, Beth did!)

This one is impossible to read but has a classic misprint blaming bunions on "incorrect food mechanics". But contrast that with a miracle cure: Hammertoe Crest Pads!!!! Really! I'm not kidding!
And then there's Walter Hartlauer:
We wonder if even the DC meter readers understand the cacophony of instructions - some of which contradict each other on the same meter. Conspiracy theory: "they" want us confused so we'll plug the meter even when not necessary. Or maybe "they" want to be able to ticket or tow anyone anytime.
